SANTA YNEZ RANCH DESIGN

Project Details

Since 2018, PCI has led the landscape design for an 8,000-acre working ranch and open space preserve in Santa Ynez Valley. The project integrates ecological restoration, agricultural operations, and elegant wine country living through a comprehensive approach to land management.

Location: Santa Barbara County, CA
Client: Private Landowner

The restoration work includes two miles of riparian corridor, protected by strategic livestock fencing and replanted with hundreds of native trees. Two natural ponds support local wildlife, while insectary gardens attract beneficial insects and pollinators. Native grass and wildflower meadows enhance biodiversity and provide additional wildlife habitat throughout the property.

For visitors, a network of hiking and equestrian trails were designed and constructed, connecting the property's various landscape zones. PCI’s landscape design includes the pool area and the zone around a wine tasting room.

The working landscape includes a productive farm plot, and a kitchen garden. Agricultural areas are integrated with insectaries and natural areas to create a balanced and sustainable system. Infrastructure improvements include graded ranch roads and custom gates, with the overall design supporting efficient agricultural operations while maintaining the aesthetic quality of the landscape.
