Construction and landscape Services
Working with nature to build projects that grow in beauty and function over time.
Our team constructs sensitive projects safely, efficiently & effectively.
PCI Ecological's Construction Services team combines technical expertise with a profound respect for natural systems to build projects that seamlessly integrate with the surrounding landscape. Our skilled craftsmen, well-versed in both construction techniques and ecological principles, bring designs to life with precision and care. From delicate stream restoration to large-scale habitat enhancement, we prioritize safety, efficiency, and environmental sensitivity in every project.
Our comprehensive approach encompasses not only the physical construction but also crucial elements like site revegetation, erosion control, and long-term maintenance. By constructing projects that we often design ourselves, we ensure a seamless transition from concept to reality, resulting in sustainable, beautiful, and functional ecological enhancements that benefit both wildlife and communities for years to come.
OUR CONSTRUCTION & restoration LANDSCAPE SERVICES INCLUDE:
Constructibility review and cost estimating through varying stages of design
Aquatic ecosystem restoration (river, stream, wetland, floodplain and off channel habitat creation)
Dam removal, modifications for aquatic species, fish passage and culvert retrofits
Terrestrial habitat creation and enhancement (site revegetation, native plant installation)
Natural ponds for habitat creation, fishing, swimming, and water supply including California tiger salamander, California red-legged frog, and vernal pools
Streambank and gully repairs using bioengineering and traditional engineering methods
Ecological driven fuel and forest management including invasive plant management
Erosion control and water management (SWPPP implementation, rainwater harvesting systems), particularly in sensitive resource areas
Specialized in-stream habitat structure installation (e.g., large woody debris, in-stream features)
Natural estate landscapes using endemic building materials with drought tolerant and native plants
Full-service project support (cost estimating, project management, species relocation, stream dewatering, construction-period and post-implementation monitoring)
Seed collection, plant propagation, irrigation system design, and long-term maintenance
PCI Ecological qualifies as a small business. PCI Ecological is a licensed General Engineering (A) and Landscape (C27) contractor (License No. 590735). We are certified by PG&E as a Gold Shovel Standard contractor and maintain an ISNETWORLD subscription with an A grade. Our construction crew is trained and experienced in the use of excavators, loaders, dump trucks, skid steers and skip loaders of all sizes to perform earthwork.
WHERE OUR Services MAKES AN IMPACT
-
Engineering solutions to prevent erosion and restore natural stream function, incorporating bioengineering techniques, rock structures, and native vegetation to create stable, ecologically functioning waterways that support aquatic and terrestrial wildlife while protecting adjacent infrastructure.
-
Design and construction of seasonal and permanent wetland habitats, including precise grading, soil preparation, and specialized planting to create self-sustaining ecosystems that support amphibians, invertebrates, and waterfowl while providing essential watershed functions and biodiversity benefits.
-
Rehabilitation of highly disturbed sites such as rock quarries, spoils piles, and lumber mills through recontouring, soil amendment, hydrologic restoration, and strategic revegetation to create functional habitats while addressing safety concerns and environmental impacts from previous land uses.
-
Establish native plant communities within a variety of landscapes to create conditions that improve ecologic function, provide improved habitat conditions for plants and wildlife, and create diverse and aesthetically pleasing site conditions.
-
Design and implementation of water delivery systems using efficient, automated technology to support new plant communities during establishment periods, incorporating weather monitoring and smart controls to optimize water use while ensuring plant survival.
-
Installation of sophisticated collection systems to capture, filter, and store rainwater for habitat support, including design of catchment areas, filtration systems, storage facilities, and distribution networks that maximize water capture while ensuring water quality.
-
Construction of in-stream and off-channel features including pools, riffles, boulder clusters, and woody debris to improve aquatic habitat quality, enhance spawning conditions, and create refuge areas for multiple fish species and life stages.
-
Vegetation management that reduces fire risk while protecting habitat values, using selective thinning, prescribed burning, and strategic placement of fuel breaks to create fire-resilient landscapes that maintain wildlife corridors and sensitive species habitat.
-
Development of invasive species management plans with removal strategies that are site specific with consideration for seasonal work windows given specific species reproduction timing. Invasive species removal is often coupled with native seeding and revegetation strategies to out compete the invasive with native stands of plants and grasses.
-
Growing and establishing indigenous plant species through collection of local seed sources, nursery propagation, site preparation, and strategic installation techniques to ensure high survival rates and create authentic, resilient plant communities.
-
Comprehensive measures to prevent soil loss and protect water quality during construction, including installation of BMPs, regular monitoring and maintenance, and adaptive management to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while protecting downstream resources.
-
Implementation of engineered and natural systems to manage urban runoff through strategic planning and design, including detention basins, underground storage, filtering systems, and water quality treatment trains to meet regulatory requirements while protecting downstream water resources and reducing flood risk in developed areas.
