Barns in field

Sonoma County, CA

Helen Putnam Park Extension Design

Project Details

The beloved Helen Putnam Park in Petaluma will expand by 47 acres thanks to community efforts led by the Kelly Creek Protection Project. Neighboring Scott Ranch was previously planned for a housing development. Planned infrastructure improvements will provide access for visitors with a diversity of abilities and features such as play areas, livestock demonstration areas, educational centers, picnic areas, and trails – a portion of which will also be ADA accessible. The Scott Ranch has great scenic value and is in the process of becoming designated a local landmark. A Conservation Easement will be placed on the site to protect the California red-legged frog in perpetuity.

Location: Sonoma County, CA
Client: Earth Island Institute

PCI Ecological prepared a conceptual design for the Helen Putnam Regional Park expansion in 2022 that protects and provides community access to the riparian corridor, protects California red legged frog habitat, maintains livestock grazing and highlights the land’s agricultural history.
